Sharon Cook

Senior Lecturer, previously Research fellow, at Loughborough University which in the last independent assessment of UK academic institutions was ranked first for the quality of its research in the field of design.  For nearly 25 years Sharon has specialised in ergonomics with particular emphasis on ageing and disability and she has undertaken research for the: European Commission, Research Councils UK, UK government and global industries in this respect.  Sharon is interested in empathic modelling and has developed a range of Wearable Simulations of different health conditions, including ageing, osteoarthritis and dermatitis.  These tools, which are now being used worldwide within industry, enable those who wear them to obtain insights into how these conditions feel and how they impact daily living.  In 2013 Sharon was awarded the UK’s Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors ‘Ergonomics Design Award’ in recognition of ‘excellence in ergonomics/human factors application‘ and she was part of a research team which was awarded the UK’s Queens Anniversary prize in 2007 recognising ‘world-class excellence in areas of service and benefit to the nation’.
